Violent crime down in state
Violent crime declined across the state in 2008 while property crimes rose compared to the year before, according to a report released Thursday by the Department of Public Safety. Springfield led Windsor County in crime with 623 crimes in 2008, but the town saw a slight decline from the 630 crimes reported in 2007.

New Riverside Park boat dock vandalized
Last weekend, 3 of the 4 plastic pole covers were missing; pulled off and thrown into the river. This past Sunday, 2 of the 4 galvanized steel poles used to hold the dock in place had been torn up and tossed into the river. Fundraiser event for elementary schools
The public is invited to a fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday June 10 at Riverside Middle School. The event will feature live music, face painting, a 50/50 raffle and hot dogs and baked goods for sale. All proceeds will be used to purchase playground equipment at Elm Hill and Union Street elementary schools.
