CLAREMONT – Police have released the names of a Vermont teen killed in a two-car crash Monday night. Two others including a toddler, were seriously injured in the accident.
Police said Caleb Savage, 19, of Ascutney, died at the scene of Monday's accident on Lower Main Street in Claremont.
Betty Ramen, 32, of Springfield, Vt., and her passenger, 3-year-old Noah Watkins, were seriously injured in the crash.
Both Ramen and Watkins were taken to Valley Regional Hospital and later flown to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. As of Tuesday afternoon, Watkins was in critical condition and Ramen in fair condition.
Police are still investigating the crash, but so far, they believe Savage, who was driving a 1994 Hyundai eastbound crossed the yellow line at the intersection of Lower Main Street and Route 12A. The Hyundai struck Ramen's Volkswagon head-on.
Witnesses reported to police, the Hyundai crossed the yellow line "suddenly," police said.
Police said it was too early to say whether alcohol or speed were factors in the accident.
The speed limit on Lower Main Street is 50 miles per hour.
