Bedner of Springfield agreed to plead guilty to second degree murder in exchange for a sentence of 30- to 99-years in prison, with all but 14 years suspended. • According to published reports, with credit for time served, Bedner could be released in 12 years. • On July 28, 2008 Bedner's and the girl's mother called 911 to say the baby, Cadence Bedner, was unresponsive. • Bedner later told police he hit Cadence in the back of her head with his elbow when she wouldn't stop crying. • Formal sentencing is set for July. •

Local man sentenced for killing infant
A Springfield man who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Tuesday for killing his 8-week-old-daughter in a fit of rage in 2008 could be released from jail in 12 years.
