Published November 26, 2010 in the Rutland Herald Man charged for failing to register address on sex offender registry SPRINGFIELD — A Mount Vernon Street resident who allegedly failed to confirm his residency with the Vermont Sex Offender Registry has been charged with a felony count of ignoring the state’s registration requirements. Dainard Sanborn Jr., 42, of Springfield pleaded innocent to a single count of failure to comply, a charge which was upgraded to a felony because Sanborn had been convicted of failing to register just a year ago. When he was arrested on Wednesday morning, Sanborn was at the residence on Mount Vernon Street that he previously had recorded in the state sex offender registry but, Springfield Detective Patrick Call wrote in an affidavit filed with the court, Sanborn had not mailed back his annual residency confirmation paperwork even after the state sent certified letters to his house asking him to do so. Call said when he went to Sanborn’s house he met him as he headed out the door to walk his dog and asked why he hadn’t replied back to the registry. “Sanborn stated he was going to do that today and had the paperwork inside,” Call wrote, “After securing his dog he searched for the paperwork (in a) ‘junk drawer’ that had multiple items such as tools and papers stuffed in it. After some time … Sanborn located the (sex offender registry) paperwork near the bottom of the drawer,” Call noted. In addition to convictions for possession of marijuana, violation of abuse prevention orders, simple assault and violations of probation and other court orders, Sanborn was convicted in 1990 of sex offenses involving minors in Bellows Falls. During his arraignment Wednesday afternoon in White River Junction criminal court, Judge Patricia Zimmerman noted the length of his criminal record but decided to forego imposing bail, noting his lifelong ties to Vermont and the fact that there was no record of Sanborn ever missing a court appearance despite the number of cases he’d been involved in over the years. http://www.rutlandherald.com/article/20101126/THISJUSTIN/711269861
