FCC fines VTel
Springfield, Vermont - October 14, 2011
WCAX
The Federal Communications Commission has fined the Vermont Telephone Company $34,000.
The FCC claims VTel knowingly omitted revenue information for three years in a row.
The FCC claims that the company reported a major shareholder, Walter Hewlett of Hewlett Packard, did not have any financial gain during the past three years. At the end of those three years, VTel filed an amendment stating Walter Hewlett did in fact make money in his partnership with VTel.
According to the FCC, VTel's failure to disclose that information during the first three years violates the contract.
VTel has 30 days to either pay up or submit a written request for a cancellation.
