Springfield marks Memorial Day with solemn service

More than 200 people, including all ages, turned out for the morning ceremony under gray skies. It was held at Memorial Park on River Street and concluded with a short parade to the Black River and the solemn tossing of a wreath into the river near Riverside Park.

Flea market gets an ‘artful’ touch at Springfield gallery

Springfield adopts ‘crash tax’ ordinance

The Springfield Select Board this week gave its final approval to an ordinance that will allow the town to recover some of the costs of providing police and fire services.

Chester struggles during bridge repairs

The Route 103 bridge repairs are under way with much of the usual traffic through Chester being diverted through Springfield. Fred Degner, president of Cummings Hardware, said business is quiet as a result of the bridge closure. He compared Chester to “a ghost town."

UVM awards degrees

Tennis legend Billie Jean King delivered the commencement address at the University of Vermont commencement ceremony Sunday. The 2,475 graduates this year include 13 from the Springfield area.

On Monday afternoon, James and Jean Edwards were busy carrying out family mementos, photo albums and boxes of paperwork, waiting for fire investigators to tell them what had happened to their home at 147 Park St.
