Colonels edge Cosmos in pitchers’ dandy
GIRLS SOFTBALL
Brattleboro 1, Springfield 0
BRATTLEBORO — The Colonels scored on a double-steal in the third and made Kayla Woods’ 13-strikeout six-hitter stand up in a battle of the Division I (Brattleboro) and D-II defending champions.
“It frustrates the heck out of me but the kids played really good softball,” Springfield coach Andy Bladyka said.
The Cosmos had two runners aboard three times and had a runner cut down at home on a delayed double steal. Chelsea McAllister singled and was thrown out at home by a narrow margin.
Springfield’s Heather Sanborn was also impressive with a nine-strikeout three-hitter.
Julia Stein had two hits for the 4-2 Cosmos while Wood had two hits for the 4-1 Colonels, who have not lost in Vermont since 2009.
