Cosmos rally late
SOFTBALL
Springfield 7, Leland & Gray 6
TOWNSHEND — Megan Courchesne drove in Chelsea McAllister with the game-winning run in the top of the seventh and the Cosmo defense came up big, gunning down Corey Griffin at the plate to end the game as Springfield pushed its record to 3-0 Monday.
Leland & Gray held a 6-1 lead going into the fifth inning but Springfield rallied for four in the frame to make it a game. The Cosmos then broke into the lead when the first run scored on a throwing error and then Courchesne drove in McAllister with the game winner to pin the loss on Rebel starter Nicole Sherman.
Sara Locke scattered three hits, struck out 11 and issued eight walks to post the win.
Sherman yielded seven hits, walked three and fanned 10 in a losing effort. Ashley Goddard did a nice job in her first game as a catcher, filling in for an injured player.
Locke helped her own cause by collecting a pair of hits as did McAllister, while Griffin garnered a double and scored two to pace the 1-1 Rebels.
