SHS students to stage “Odd Couple” with a twist
Springfield High School’s Spring Theater Production is the Neil Simon classic 1960s comedy, “The Odd Couple”. But this time, the stage show has a twist–- this production boasts an all-female teen cast.

Meat's the thing
The local-meat movement is taking another giant leap forward, this time on Vermont’s right bank. Wholesaler Black River Produce has bought an ailing former ice cream plant in North Springfield and will transform it into a meat-processing center.
Going without meat gets downright easy
At the St. Mary's Friday Night Dinners, held every Friday evening during Lent, about 110 pounds of haddock is purchased for each fish fry.

The Springfield School Board last night unanimously set a new, lower school district budget for residents to consider after the original budget was voted down earlier in March.

Vermont GOP chair wants “examination” of voter irregularities
John Lindley, a Romney supporter and longtime Vermont Republican who has been on the job as GOP chair for just a few weeks, says he wants the Vermont Secretary of State to examine alleged poll reporting irregularities. Longtime political observer Eric Davis said Romney’s real problem was Ron Paul, who won close to 100 towns.

A well-attended Springfield town meeting Monday produced few critical questions about the proposed $10 million town budget and $27 million school budget. About 200 people — much more than in recent years — listened to town officials and occasionally quizzed them.

The town has asked its engineering firm to evaluate the town's water system to see if it can provide a large quantity of water to the proposed wood-fired power plant in North Springfield.
U-32 ousts Springfield, 53-39
Third-seeded U-32 turned up the heat defensively in the second half and used its height advantage to defeat No. 14 Springfield 53-39 Wednesday night and advance into the Division II boys basketball quarterfinals on Saturday.
