High Risk Sex Offender to be Released Friday 07/25 22:17 PM07/26 07:50 AM ABC 22 News SPRINGFIELD, Vt. - A violent sex offender is set to be released in less than 24 hours. 53-year-old Timothy Szad served time for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy. His plan was to live in Springfield, Vermont but just hours ago; we've learned he'll move out of state instead. Police say he is likely to re-offend. And they know what that target group could be. This is where Timothy Szad is spending his last night as prisoner. He was originally planning to move in with his elderly parents once he’s released Friday, but after they received death threats, he had to come up with a new plan. News of a violent sex offender being released from prison and into the community put Springfield parents on high alert. "Nobody really wants somebody that they know has done something so terrible to be there next door neighbor," Heather Mason said. It was in 2000 that police say Timothy Szad, now 53 handcuffed and sexually assaulted a 13 year old boy in Rockingham. Now, the clock is ticking. Szad has served his sentence and will be released Friday. He likely won't reside in Springfield or Vermont at all - Springfield Police Chief Doug Johnston says he heard Szad is moving out of state - what's unclear are the details. Still, regardless of his address, he still has strong ties to the Springfield community - his parents and brother live there - plus it's where he grew up. The concern is police say he's very likely to reoffend. His prefence, 12 and 13 year old blonde haired, blue eyed boys, who are strangers. "There is something very wrong if you're attracted to a child," Mason said. "I have a seven year old, a 12 year old and can't ever forget the 14 year old," Larry Powers said. Powers has talked to his kids about the dangers - which is exactly what police recommend. Szad may not be our new neighbor, but there are 27 other sex offenders in Springfield. "I don't think they need to be scared, I think they need to be cautious," the Chief said. "I’m just going to be over-careful. There’s no way I’m going to let something like that happen to him," Mason said. Timothy Szad is six five and 255 pounds - he has completed a sex offender treatment program. After walking out of the prison tomorrow, Timothy Szad is a free man - he won't be on probation, or parole, but he will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. Whenever he moves, he'll have three days to notify the Department of Corrections, but police say, even "under the bridge in Hartford Connecticut" would be sufficient. We’ll know more tomorrow on where exactly he's going to live.
This is the second occasion for me that Rep. Emmons has proved that she is not a friend of this community and certainly puts the well-being of violent criminals above law abiding citizens and children.
ReplyDeleteI spoke with her about something that needed to be changed in our statutes which was a catch 22 and she NEVER EVER took further action to close that loophole nor when talking to her was she able to comprehend the issue.
Springfield needs to man up and next electoral session we need a strong person to run and defeat her. I think she should go live in California along with Mr. Szad. That would be fitting!! And we wonder why the drug offenders and the criminals are wandering our streets? Look no further but your local Representative!
