McDonald's coming down

Demolition of the Springfield McDonald's has begun. It will be replaced by a smaller, more energy efficient facility expected to be open for business in late October.

  1. Please don't reopen this place. Instead replace it with a 5 guys or Taco Bell.

  3. If the conception is accurate, why is the franchise owner, Constantine Scrivanos allowed to proceed with such an eye sore? There is absolutely no reason a more subdued color scheme and signage couldn't be employed.

Plastic, neon signs in clown colors are so 60's vintage gosh. Take a hint from the more tasteful, Plaza, Duck Inn, Theater, and Riverside School signage. My bet is Scrivanos greased Kearns palm to avoid any zoning enforcement.

  5. Why oh why with all the efforts to beautify Springfield on the part of volunteers does the town allow something that looks this trashy at a key traffic junction? Is it because it fits it with the Simpsons branding?

  6. It's sad I now have to travel a half hour to get my Quarter Pounder with cheese and Chicken Sandwich. Can't wait for the new building to open. Looks nice.

  7. Flat roof and how do you politely say "ugly", some architects must have been abused as children or something.

  8. This is the perfect time to break the McDonald's habit and discover all the great local businesses who serve much better food!
Money spent locally stays in our area at a MUCH higher rate than when we hand it over to global corporations.

Try Perkins Deli, the JennyWren Cafe, or the Food Co-op for quick take-out food that's both tasty and nourishing.

    Nice article about supporting Springfield:

  9. I miss being able to us McD as a road bypass; the light into the plaza only allows three cars on green, one on yellow, and an undetermined number on red. It is ludicrous to have such a quick cycle into a busy plaza. This being Springfield, the powers that be will probably shorten the cycle, if anything.

  10. Geeze why couldn't we bring and Applebees; TGI Fridays or Olive Garden to town? Some place nice to sit with friends and have a relaxing dinner or lunch. Black Rock & Riverside are fine but really do we need a fast food place like this? And Where is JennyWren Cafe?

  11. LOL @ 10:03. That is too funny, "Applebees, TGI Fridays or Olive Garden." Ha ha ha. I'm surprised you didn't mention Cracker Barrel. Like we need chain places that microwave oversalted frozen food. YUCK you couldnt pay me to eat at any of those places.

JennyWren is downtown near the library.

  12. The JennyWren is the new name chosen by the longtime owner of Apron Strings downtown!

  13. This "new" McDonald's is even uglier than the one torn down. Why does Springfield allow this?
