http://www.sapatv.org The SAPA Scoop September 18, 2013 Posted on September 19, 2013 New Beginnings…. The first edition of the Springfield High School Green Horn Live television news show for the new school year was presented live in the Springfield High School on Friday, September 13 at 9:15 AM. The live broadcast was only shown in the high school for this first show, but was recorded and will replay this next week on SAPA TV Channel 10. A new staff with many enthusiastic new members had their work cut out to get a show put together and broadcast in only two weeks. The students were faced with every problem you could imagine as well as a number you would never think of as they worked to create their first show. The first run through of the first show was challenging to say the least. B rolls that failed, scripts having to be rewritten, students learning to operate complex equipment and a production team learning to work their individual task into a total team effort. With an enormous amount of effort, sweat and even a few tears, they pulled it together and produced a virtually flawless performance live in front of the entire school. When you the viewers watch this show, you will have no idea how much effort went into the production of this show. When the students finished the show and left the studio the smiles and the pride in what they had accomplished was clearly evident on their faces. Their comments were already focused on what they can do to improve for the next show. This promises to be a great year for Green Horn Live and the Green Horn publication. Publication deadlines are already set and a first edition will be appearing shortly. ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ Summer officially ends on September 22 and fall begins. Harvest time is here as the house is filled with the smells of canning and drying herbs. Outside there is a frenzy of activities as birds and animals prepare for the coming winter. Migrations will be underway soon from this region to the south while old winter friends are on their way south from an arctic summer vacation. Birds are not eating from feeders, but are literally vacuuming the seeds up. Soon the songs will change and decrease as summer families leave and our constant winter friends will take their places in the trees and at the feeders. It is both a sad time of goodbyes and a happy time of welcome back that we face in the next few weeks. Take a minute and enjoy those sounds before they disappear for months. ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ This week on Puggy’s Corner Puggy’s guest is David Cohn, Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Springfield School District. The discussion focuses on a number of issues facing the school district and how the administration is working to address these issues. Training, instruction, curriculum, graduation rates and test scores are all part of this discussion. Testing and test results as well as the new common core curriculum are also discussed in this wide ranging look at what is happening in the Springfield schools now and in the near future. Instructional coaches are another topic of discussion in this program. After viewing this show you will have a better idea of many of the goals of the new administrative team of the Springfield School District. ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ This week on Channel 8 we are featuring several new programs, which are being shared with us from the Ludlow public access station. One short program highlights the closing ceremonies from the recent Iron Adventure Run of motorcyclists from all over the country at Okemo Mountain. The second new show is entitled “Know Your Wild Neighbors – Leave It To Beavers”. This show examines the lives of beavers in our region and is presented by Chris Bernier from the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department. The third new program is on the History of Stenciling and is presented by Nancy McKeegan. The art of stenciling was very popular in years past and has made a comeback in recent years as a method of decoration in homes and in other uses. ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ This week on Channel 10 we will have new board meetings of the Weathersfield School Board and the Weathersfield Select Board. The Chester Select Board will also be new this week and the Springfield School Board will be live on Monday, September 16 at 6:00 PM. We also will be playing the recent Green Mountain Union High School Board again this week. ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ We want to remind you that we are still looking for volunteers to cover events in our local communities.
