Fate of proposed biomass plant in hands of PSB Posted: Jan 08, 2014 6:56 PM EST Updated: Jan 08, 2014 9:06 PM EST By Alexei Rubenstein - WCAX NORTH SPRINGFIELD, Vt. - Will a Massachusetts developer get the OK to build a wood-fired biomass plant in North Springfield? That's what the Public Service Board must now decide. Both sides made their final arguments before the board. The $200 million plant in the North Springfield Industrial Park would produce upward of 35 megawatts. The developer says that would add up to jobs and millions in economic benefits. Opponents argue that not only is electricity generation an inefficient use of biomass, it's also dirty. "As the people in Lowell and Sheffield have gone through this, and unfortunately for them, their nightmare came to fruition. We've got enough time to stop this," said Bob Kischko, a neighbor who opposes the plan. The developer missed a December tax credit deadline worth millions and has faced ongoing competition from cheap natural gas, but he still says that the plant can make a profit.
once again someone will get pushed aside by the state
ReplyDeletePanels like this are designed to approve whatever the developers want while pretending to be looking after the public's interest. The big con. This plant would be approved even if they planned on burning people in order to produce power. The only thing that would stop this plant is if Vermont had laws like they do in Massachusetts. Why is this plant being built in Vermont instead of Massachusetts?
ReplyDeletethey come rape and pillage and leave us looking around wondering where it all went. i hope mrs martin likes here new view.
ReplyDeleteThat's the best part about it!
ReplyDeleteUnfortuately the MassHoles will ultimately win.
ReplyDeleteThese City-Its don't care about what the citizens
of North Springfield want, it is all about them.
I want this plant built in my town who is with me?
ReplyDeleteSame here.. I'm a native of Springfield and we need to start with this. With a town of almost 10,000 I see only about a 100 pp upset.
DeleteThis is one small step for a man, one giant leap for Springfield! Build it!
ReplyDeleteNot Me.
ReplyDeleteNo one even talks about the water this plant will use if they drill a well they will most likely drain any nearby wells including the towns wells that are only a mile or two away.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck Springfield.
No well in the picture so we will be fine.
