SUMMARY OF CRASH:
On 7/16/14 at approx. 06:08 Richard Martin was operating a 2014 Kenworth tractor trailer heading north on I91 in Springfield. The tractor trailer unit had 2 separate cargo trailers. The cargo was FedEx miscellaneous delivery packages. The unit swerved off the right side of the highway and sideswiped a tall ledge. The unit travelled partially up the ledge and then back down. The cab sustained major damage when it struck the ground and the second trailer rolled onto its side. The operator had to be extricated by Springfield Fire and he suffered a hip injury. He was transported to the Springfield Hospital. The travel lane is closed and the truck removal and fuel clean-up is expected to last throughout the day. This is an ongoing crash scene and the cause of the crash is under investigation.

Published July 17, 2014 in the Rutland Herald FedEx truck rolls over off I-91 By ERIC FRANCIS CORRESPONDENT SPRINGFIELD — A double-trailer FedEx truck swerved off Interstate 91 and rolled over Wednesday morning, injuring the driver. Richard Martin, 50, of Hardwick, was freed from the wrecked cab with hydraulic tools. He was wearing a seat belt and suffered a hip injury, police said. Springfield Fire Chief Russ Thompson said rescue efforts were complicated by a diesel spill and a ruptured oil tank, but Martin was removed in about half an hour. “That (extrication) was relatively quick considering the degree to which he was trapped,” Thompson said. Vermont State Police said the crash happened shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday in the northbound lane of I-91. A small fire broke out, but it was extinguished by a passing motorist who stopped to help. The 2014 Kenworth tractor and its tandem trailers were destroyed in the crash. The diesel spill and a leaking oil tank in the second trailer necessitated a daylong cleanup effort. Northbound traffic was reduced to a single lane. “There was a (hazardous material) placard on the second trailer and the 200 gallons of oil (in the cargo) were properly listed on the bill of lading and the manifest,” Thompson said. An engine crew from the Springfield Fire Department spent the day at the scene as a precaution, and a private contractor was called in to do the cleanup. “In all, there were probably a hundred gallons or more of diesel fuel spread across the breakdown lane, along with the oil from at least one of the containers that was disturbed,” the fire chief said. Trooper Paul Dean said it was clear from the tire marks at the scene that Martin abruptly veered off the right side of the interstate and sideswiped the rock ledge. But he said it is not clear why the driver swerved and the cause of the crash is under investigation.
WE are going to refer him to this article to see if he can get the issue resolved before going to Meritor about a warranty claim. Again thanks for posting this great job and I have a hunch this will resolve this issue for us. Trailer rental
