Cosmos hit their way past Black River
BOYS BASEBALL
Springfield 14, Black River 10
LUDLOW — Springfield jumped on starter Jonathan LeTourneau and chased him before he could get out of the first inning.
He was tagged for eight runs as the Springfield offense exploded. Ben Tubbs was 3 for 4, while Ed Shambo turned in a 2-for-3 performance. Zach Tubbs also tallied two hits, including a booming double the clanked off of the bottom of the outfield fence.
John Hildredth earned the win in relief, tossing 3.2 innings on two hits and one walk. He struck out two.
Black River’s offense struggled to get timely hits but was patient enough to take free passes and put some runs on the board.
“We really took a lot of walks and made good with that,” Black River coach Jim O’Neil said.
Black River falls to 2-1 and hosts Proctor on Thursday.
