KANAN SAYS SMITH COULD BE HELD WITH BAIL DEPENDING ON WHAT THE HARTFORD, Vt. —Suspected shooter 30-year-old Gregory Smith and his girlfriend, 25-year-old Wendy Morris were arraigned April 24 in Windsor County District Court. He is suspected of shooting his 37-year-old neighbor Wesley Wing in Springfield on April 18. Wing later died of injuries related to the four gunshot wounds he sustained. Smith has been held without bail since his arrest on April 23 at a Londonderry campground. The arrest followed a five day manhunt that began shortly after the shooting death of Wing. Smith plead not guilty to second-degree murder charges. He is being held without bail. Morris also plead not guilty. She is charged with accessory after the fact. She was released without bail on numerous conditions. She can’t have any contact with Gregory Smith or several members of the Wing family. She’ll also have to pay $10,000 dollars if she does not show up for her next court hearing. Morris could face a maximum of 7 years behind bars if convicted. State attorney Michael Kainen said Smith will likely be in court within the next few weeks for an evidence review hearing. “There's a fair amount of information that the Springfield Police Department has that hasn't made it to the file yet because they're still investigating, so I expect that within the next 10 days there will be additional information,” Kainen said. Smith could face life in prison for second-degree murder.
