Springfield to flush water system
By STAFF REPORTS | May 02, 2015
SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Water Department warned that water main flushing will occur throughout the week and residents may notice discoloration and cloudiness in their tap water.
Officials say the flushing will will take place from Monday to Friday and that the system will be affected from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Flushing is annual maintenance — harmless corrosion and foreign matter is expelled from the water system via open fire hydrants and, officials say, it is an important part of maintaining quality drinking water.
Although discolored water may be seen, it is not consider harmful. The water department suggests scheduling any clothes washing and other cleaning activities outside the expected municipal workday. The department also suggests that restaurants and laundromats keep their water usage to a minimum until the cloudiness clears, which will happen when the work is complete.
