SPRINGFIELD — The Cosmos continued their solid season by hiking their record to 7-1 with a convincing win over neighboring Green Mountain under the lights.
Hard-throwing Jade Twombly was overpowering with 13 strikeouts as she limited the Chieftains to two hits. Rylee Ewald, the losing pitcher, broke up Twombly’s no-hit bid in the fourth.
Twombly’s teammates staked her to a big lead with an eight-run third inning. Thy key blow in the frame was a three-run triple by Chelsea McAllister.
Brooke Willey had three hits and scored three runs and McAllister had a single to go with her triple.
Green Mountain fell to 4-5.
Springfield has another home night game on Thursday against Rutland.
