Emmons: Town charter could fight blight

Rep. Alice Emmons, D-Springfield, thinks the town charter is the best resource for the town in its effort to fight eyesores.

  1. The best way to clean up the town is to start with the major eyesores: J & L, Bryant Grinder, and the worst of all, the Parks and Woolson factory. Harrassing the poor is becoming a major revenue driver in other states. Don't let it happen here. Make our brave officials take on the biggest offenders, not the economically struggling poor.

    I wonder when Alice is going to bring some state revenue to Springfield, such as filling our vacant school buildings with state offices? The Park St. School adjoins state owned property and beautiful offices on Mineral St. It is a natural for similar development. How about moving Vermont's Water Dept. to Park St.? They were the people that designed and supervised the installation of our new water mains, the same system that leaked like a sieve when the pressure was turned up!
