SPRINGFIELD, Vt. -
A Springfield man is accused of holding his girlfriend’s head in a bucket of bleach.
Robert Smart, 53, pleaded not guilty Thursday to aggravated assault. Police say his girlfriend also had visible injuries including a cigarette burn on her back. Police also say there have been frequent reports of assaults involving the couple, but the alleged victim had a history of not wanting to file a report, recanting or being too intoxicated to provide accurate information.
Smart was released on conditions to stay away from the victim.
