SMCS Earns Second National Quality Leader Award Posted on 10/2/2015 Maureen Shattuck, RN, CDE, Bob DeMarco, Chief of Quality and Systems Improvement, and Katrina Taylor, DO, Medical Staff Quality Officer for Springfield Medical Care Systems. Springfield Medical Care Systems (SMCS) earned its second National Quality Leader Award from Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Acting HRSA Administrator Jim Macrae commented, “National Quality Leaders are health centers that are the highest performers compared to national standards and benchmarks in key clinical areas. The National Quality Leaders received funding if they met or exceeded national clinical quality benchmarks, including Healthy People 2020 objectives, for chronic disease management, preventive care, and perinatal/prenatal care, demonstrating health centers’ critical role in improving quality health care nationwide.” The amount of the award is $42,438 to recognize health center quality achievements and the funding may be used to expand current quality improvement systems and infrastructure, and improve primary care service delivery. “Achieving the highest quality clinical performance is always our goal,” commented Timothy Ford, President and Chief Executive Officer of SMCS. “We are extremely proud to be one of only 61 health centers nationally that achieved the National Quality Leader designation.” Ford continued, “This award recognizes the leadership of Katrina Taylor, DO, Medical Staff Quality Officer, Bob DeMarco, Chief of Quality and Systems Improvement, and Maureen Shattuck, who leads our Community Health Team and Quality Improvement Collaborative efforts. This level of achievement is truly a team effort and recognizes the professionalism and dedication of our clinical and administrative staff. It is an honor to accept this award on behalf of the entire SMCS team whose daily care for patients is at the very heart of this award.” About Springfield Medical Care Systems: Springfield Medical Care Systems is a not-for-profit, community-based health care system that includes a seven-site community health center network and Springfield Hospital.
