Attic fire badly damages Springfield home
Springfield, Vermont - May 23, 2011
A big blaze badly damaged a home in Springfield on Sunday night.
Firefighters believe the blaze started in the attic of the two-story residence on Park Street at around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. The family had returned home from vacation just hours before discovering the fire.
It took crews from Springfield, Chester, Bellows Falls, and Charlestown four hours to get the fire under control. They were able to save the structure but say there's heavy damage to the roof and attic. Firefighting efforts were made more difficult by the structure's slate roof.
Fortunately no one was injured and the Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

This makes me sad. I grew up in this house.
