Vt. county fair returns after year off
June 29, 2011 - Boston.com
SPRINGFIELD, Vt. (AP) — What some call the "best little fair in Vermont" is going to be back next month at Barlow's Field in Springfield.
Last year the Windsor County Agricultural Fair was canceled because organizers couldn't find enough volunteers to run it.
Now fair president Eric Johnson says they're back with a bigger team and bigger fair.
The Windsor County Fair first began in the 1860s. It ran through 1929 and was brought back in the 1970s.
The Claremont Eagle Times says the Windsor County Ag Fair has always focused on animals and local products.
Fair Committee member Karri Storm says they're not as mechanical or modern as some other larger fairs, but they consider it important to keep the focus local.
The fair is scheduled for July 9 and 10.
