Springfield man pleads not guilty in child porn case
A Vermont man who prosecutors say trafficked in child pornography says he’s innocent.
Fifty-three-year-old Stephen Comstock, of Springfield, is charged with transporting and possessing child pornography. He pleaded innocent Wednesday in an arraignment in U.S. District Court in Burlington. He was released on conditions pending his trial.
Last week, a grand jury indicted Comstock after prosecutors alleged that he sent images to someone via computer and was caught by U.S. Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Los Angeles, who were monitoring a website known to be visited by child porn users.
In December, agents seized computers from his home that they say contained child porn images.
If convicted, Comstock could get up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on the transporting count.
