SAPCC celebrates opening of new building

Vermont Secretary of Human Services Doug Racine and young Colby Downing together cut the ribbon  Tuesday morning officially opening up the new headquarters of the Springfield Area Parent Child Center.

A crowd of about 120 people showed up to attend the 11 a.m. grand opening ceremony. Governor Peter Shumlin had originally been scheduled to participate but instead sent Racine to fill in for him.  "I'm used to coming in second to Peter Shumlin," quipped Racine. A reference to their very close primary race in 2010.

Other guest speakers on hand were John Tracy, who is U.S. Sen. Pat Leahy's State Director; and Molly Lambert,  State Director for the USDA's Rural Development for Vermont.

Following the ceremony,  guided tours were given through the new 12,000 square foot facility ending in a small reception room where refreshments of cake and punch were enjoyed.

The new building is located next door to their old location at 2 Main Street in North Springfield and across the street from KJ's Place. It was designed by Samuel M. Purvis Architects of Woodstock, Vermont.  The cost of its construction reached nearly four million dollars.  Money to construct it came from loans, mortgages, public grants and many charitable gifts.

The non-profit Springfield Area Parent Child Center is a member of the Vermont Parent Child Center Network, and offers services for all pregnant women and families with young children.  These services include home visits,  parent education and support, child care support services, on-site adult education and job training, playgroups, early care,  education and early intervention,  outreach, information and referral, and community collaboration.  They have been serving 15 communities but with this new expansion, they will be able to extend their outreach to even more.

  1. Just what we don't need, more people meddling in parent child affairs. Where's the supervised visits for father's who got into an arguement with their ex-wives? Oh, that is soo, fun, to be corralled into a visitation session by armed guards and quacks who tell you that, surprise, you need some more of their services, like counseling! A self perpetuating scam just like the family courts. Hopefully they all close their doors permanently very soon.

  2. It's a big business folks! People making ALOT of money off of your misery and "forced guidance" on how to be the "perfect parent", taking away your kids, because they somehow know better? 99% of these professionals are more disturbed mentally than the people they offer their services to.
They should be in counseling themselves for a long, long time before offering their slanted advice from a generally small scope of experience.
Promoting the "survival of the fittest" in parents as who is the "fit" parent and who is not? That's right, atheism in parental counseling has been going on for over a decade. Maybe one parent has certain disabilities---Oh well, they aren't fit and will likely be exploited, their children be given to the fit parent by the courts (I had mine removed as being disabled) and these parent child professionals will be paid to back them up. Legalized kidnapping, and extortion if you have the money to fight them.

New World Order---Police State B.S.---Fascism. Enjoy parenting in the new "free" world of Amerika.
