Late Sunday night, the Springfield Fire Department responded to a reported fire in an vacant house at 69 Mineral Street.
When they arrived, they found the first floor partially ablaze. No one was found to be at the residence at the time of the fire. The house is owned by Charles Gregory, 67, of Springfield.
Fire investigators from the Vermont State Police, as well as from the Vermont Division of Fire Safety, were requested shortly thereafter for an origin and cause determination.
The investigation revealed the fire was caused by an incendiary means.
Anyone with information regarding the case is encouraged to contact Det. Call of the Springfield Police Department at (802) 885-2113 or Det. Sgt. Sutton of the Vermont State Police at (802) 773-9101. The public may also contact the Vermont Arson Tip Award Program (VATAP) at 1-800-32-ARSON.
