Three people deny drug charges
Three people charged with selling crack cocaine in Springfield answered to a number of felony charges this week.
Tyrone Hill, 41, and Stephanie Champney, 25, both of Springfield, and Melissa Barratt, 31, of Bellows Falls, pleaded innocent in White River Junction criminal court on Wednesday to multiple felony charges of selling cocaine. Bail was set at $50,000 for Hill and at $10,000 for Champney, both of whom remained in jail Thursday afternoon.
Bail was also set at $10,000 for Barratt — who was only required to post $1,000 for her release.
The three were arrested Wednesday by members of the Southern Vermont Drug Task Force — made up of state and local police — who said the arrests were made at the end of an investigation that lasted months.
During the raid, police searched the Merrill Street apartment where Champney and Hill live and police said they seized more than an ounce of crack cocaine.
