Springfield Police Department activity for the week ending July 23.
A Tractor trailer unit attempting to make a U-turn at the entrance to the fishing access area off Charlestown Road became hung up on the guardrails obstructing traffic coming across the former toll bridge from Charlestown. The were no injuries and minimal traffic delays.
A 25 year old Bellows Falls man was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while license criminally suspended and may also be facing charges of possession of drug paraphenelia and fireworks as both of these items were seized at the time of the stop. He will appear in Windsor Superior Court Criminal Division at a later date.
On July 19th, a stolen vehicle out of Chester was located in a parking lot located off Mineral St. Fortunately for the owner the vehicle was undamaged however it had come to it's place of rest most likely due to running out of gas.
July 20th a 20 year of Springfield man was arrested and charged with Minor Possession of Alcohol; Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and Resisting Arrest after officers were twice called to a residence that the male was located at. initial reports indicated a possible domestic incident however further investigation found that the parties were involved in a heated verbal dispute. The male subject was lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility in lieu of $1500 bail.
July 22nd Police along with EMS responded to a report of a bicyclist versus motor vehicle accident. The bicyclist was transported to Springfield Hospital but was not believed to have any serious injuries. The accident is still under investigation.
A 58 year old Springfield male was arrested and cited to appear in court at a later date to answer to the charge of driving while criminally suspended.
A 22 year old Springfield male has been cited in to court at a later date when he was found to be in possession of marijuana following a motor vehicle stop.
A 46 year old Westminister woman was arrested for DUI following a motor vehicle stop on Main Street late Friday night. At the time of the stop her BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) was a .244, three times the legal limit of .08. The woman was released on citation to appear in court at a later date.
At 10 a.m., the morning of July 23rd, while conducting a motor vehicle stop on South Street, Officer Deslauriers made contact with the operator, a 17 year old Chester female who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. A BAC indicated a .096. The juvenile was issued the appropriate paperwork and released to a custodial parent.
Police also responded and assisted with the serving of multiple Restraining Orders; assisted with juvenile issues; custodial issues; and a multitude of calls involving behavioral issues of one type or another.
