Springfield — Students at Springfield High School, as well as local residents, will again be treated to a unique traveling arts program sponsored by the University of Vermont. This year is the fifth year for UVM’s Dance Program at SHS.
The event will be held Monday, March 26, at 8 a.m. in the SHS Gym.
Created in 2006, UVM’s Dance Program grew out of a campus initiative centered in the College of Arts and Sciences. According to the program’s mission statement, “it is the first effort to establish a comprehensive academic course of study in the field of dance at University of Vermont.”
The Dance Program is part of UVM’s Department of Music but it also closely aligned with the university’s Department of Theatre. Part of the program’s mission is to visit schools around the state to showcase dance as well as inspire younger students to pursue the arts.
The program at SHS will run one hour and include student and faculty choreography in the area of modern dance. This year, dancers include those the University of Vermont and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
The event is open to SHS students as well as the general public. There is no charge to attend.
