One of the new smart meters had just been installed on the house earlier in the week.
For fires that are ‘unexplained’ or termed electrical in nature, fire inspectors should check whether smart meters were installed recently. emfsafetynetwork.org

Fire damages Wall Street home in Springfield
Posted on November 15, 2012 by Rob Mitchell
SPRINGFIELD — A home belonging to Donald and Jean Bishop at 180 Wall Street was severely damaged by fire early Wednesday morning. The Bishops, who are in the process of moving to a second home on Mile Hill Road in Springfield, were not at home at the time of the 12:39 a.m., fire. Springfield Deputy Fire Chief Scott Richardson said about 20 firefighters fought the fire, and it took firefighters four hours to bring it under control. An investigation by the state fire marshal’s office found the cause of the fire to be undetermined, but not suspicious. Damage is estimated at $100,000. Don Bishop, who has owned the home since 1967, said he was called by a neighbor and he watched his home burn.
Looks like the SFD was able to save the cellar hole.
ReplyDeleteLOL....Springfield Fire Department and Swimming Pool installers.
ReplyDeleteWill they be giving air-boat rides on the 4th of July?????
Why do we even PAY a FULL TIME fire department in our town?????? People and children sleeping in tinder boxes, waiting for an inevitable conflagration......and NO INSPECTIONS are being coducted. Inexcuseable!!!!!
Smoke detectors and early notification are key. An abandoned house at 11:30 at night with little or no notification allows a fire to get quite the head start.
DeleteYeah, that's what we all want is more home inspections! It's 2am and there's a knock at the door. Ve are heer fur zee inspection...papers please, show us der papers. Ve see you do not meet code. You must vacate zee premises immediately. Zee train is vaiting to take you to a nice varm place.
ReplyDeleteGive me a break. Keep the government out of our homes. If people are stupid enough to sleep in tinder boxes, then they can deal with the consequences.
FREEDOM FIRST!
Hah! They were not in the process of moving. They've been on Mile Hill for at least a year. Remember all the cars and other issues on the property? The selectboard / town attempted to negotiate without sucess. Poof.
ReplyDeletewow the picture makes it look like a smartmeter started the fire here in Springfield.
ReplyDeleteor maybe it was done by Mr Burns with a remote control @!
Yeah, and now it's 2014 and the eye sore still stands there. With the exception of a few more pieces of trash thrown around it looks like this photo. So what is worst, the smart meter, the property owners for not dealing with this mess, or the town of letting this junk still stand. Another fine Springfield mess.
