(Photo by: Kathleen Fellows) SPRINGFIELD — On June 21, Cadet Seniors and family and friends from the local Civil Air Patrol Squadron, Catamount Composite Squadron, Vt 007 of Springfield, Vermont traveled to the Commemorative Air Museum near Hartford, Conn. During this interesting visit, two Cadets were promoted at the museum. Cadet Luke Brown made his first rank of Airman and Robert Carlock was promoted to Staff Sergeant. The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force. A volunteer organization, they are tasked with three missions: aerospace education, cadet programs and emergency services including both ground and air search and rescue. CAP has a large fleet of single engine aircraft, often used to locate missing aircraft or persons and also to do damage assessment. CAP aircraft were the only planes in the air after the twin towers were hit. They were also used after Hurricane Irene in Vermont to assess for damage. Cadet membership starts at age 12. Cadet activities include not only aerospace education, an opportunity to fly but training in searching for missing aircraft and persons, summer and winter encampments and other interesting field trips. Adults of all ages are welcome. Meetings take place on Sunday afternoons at 4 p.m. at the Squadron Headquarters adjacent to the airport in Springfield, Vermont. For more information, please call Major Kathleen R. Fellows at (802) 263-554 or just join us for a meeting. http://eagletimes.villagesoup.com/p/springfield-cadets-visit-commemorative-air-museum/1212832
Outstanding. This is exactly the type of professional organizations that need as much support as possible. This type of organization shows kids there is a way out and another way to live other than what they experience now. Springfield is unrecognizable to me now since graduating from SHS in 1992. God bless the leaders of these type of organizations and their efforts.
