Police: Man feared marijuana thieves By ERIC FRANCIS CORRESPONDENT | August 29,2014 WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — A Springfield man faces drug charges after he allegedly told police “people were crawling around his yard and his house” intent on stealing his marijuana plants. Springfield Officer Craig Watrous said no intruders were found at the residence of James Blais, 59, on Carley Road. But he said he and Detective Anthony Moriglioni did find more than two dozen marijuana plants in various stages of cultivation on the property, along with several jars and baggies of harvested marijuana in the kitchen. Blais pleaded innocent Wednesday in White River Junction criminal court to felony counts of marijuana possession and cultivation. He could receive up to 18 years in prison if convicted. Blais was released on personal recognizance pending trial. Watrous said police were initially called to a neighbor’s residence because Blais was on their porch acting “out of it.” When police arrived, they said, Blais told them about people who were “after” his marijuana plants. “Detective Moriglioni then asked if he did in fact have marijuana plants and (Blais) replied ‘a couple,’” Watrous wrote in his report. The officer said they found 22 mature plants growing in Blais’ garden and another four immature plants that had been started in cups next to the back door.
To bad dude, probably will get 18 years in prison, maybe get out in 8 or 9.
ReplyDeleteDealing heroin is much safer in Vermont. Funny thing this country, Washington and Colorado states have made this stuff legal. Just a couple of days ago I talked to someone from Seattle. He said nothing has changed in terms of marijuana smoking. The one problem they had the day they sold to the public is that they ran out !! The sale of this is bringing in huge amounts of tax money for the state. Families are actually moving there because of the medicinal properties. (Young and old included). So you are at the mercy of some old farts that made the stupid law, but they themselves sit back on their big boats and smoke it. (12 miles off shore in the ocean)
but yet there was a house up by the high school that had a bunch of plants growing on a glass porch and the police knew about them, but did nothing about it.
ReplyDeleteApparently you don't read the PD calls for service:
Delete14SF03265 Suspicious 12:46:45 07/31/14 COMPLETE South St, Springfield, VT 05156
RP thinks a Pot Plant is growing on an outside porch - an officer responded to the residence and could clearly see what looked like two plants about 4 to 5 feet tall growing on the second floor porch. PD Detective advised owner of same is in compliance and within perameters of the laws pertaining to those who can possess marijuana.
Just want to let you know anon 11:32 that person has their medical marijuana card for their medical problems. I should know, that was my porch, and my husband who grew them. Registered with the state marijuana registry, and disclosed to our local police.
DeleteAnd thank you anon 5:37, you obviously pay more attention then Mrs. Kravitz up there ^
After all these years he tripped himself up by his own doing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a numbskull, if his psychosis was due to the weed...that must have been some out of this world stuff!! Another pot-head made out to look bad....jerk! Must have been smoking salts.
ReplyDelete"The officer said they found 22 mature plants growing in Blais’ garden"
ReplyDeleteSounds like a supplier to me.
Wow. 18 years. I know he won't get that. I hope he won't get that. Another flawed VT law. Its weed. If you don't smoke it you know someone who does. These people aren't troublemakers. The trash pushing deadly drugs in plain view downtown are. Or the ones who smuggle deadly drugs under their kids car seat for instance.Unfortunately Blais will get more time than the trash on the corner. Maybe if he sold downtown in plain view he would just get a slap on the wrist. What joke VT get your priorities straightened out
ReplyDeleteSelling and manufacturing (which is what growing is) are two different legal aspects. He'll get exactly what he deserves and as a citizen who lives in this town I'm glad he's finally been caught.
DeleteLooks really bad considering Chief Johnston live off of Carley rd, and Moriglioni lives at the beginning of it!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe SPD has been tipped about Jim for years but they can't act on "tips" alone. Good thing his veil's been lifted and jail time awaits.
Deletedidn't he get busted before for the same thing years ago
ReplyDeleteHarvest weight of 5oz per plant times 24 plants equals 7.5lbs total for sale.
ReplyDeleteNo way this was for personal use. Jail time is a must, especially when the find out how many years he's been doing this.
Yes they can act on "tips" alone. They can act by using those tips to get a search warrant. Why haven't they? Because it's marijuana. Because it's harmless and they're busy trying to keep heroin off the streets. They're probably at the chiefs house smokin the evidence right now can't blame em they deserve it
ReplyDelete"Because it's harmless".... haha, that's too funny.
DeleteSuuuuure, drawing unfiltered smoke directly into your lungs is harmless. Uneducated responses like yours do a disservice to the community.
DeleteFrom the America Lung Associations Web site (lung.org):
Like tobacco smoke, marijuana smoke contains cancer-causing chemicals. There are 33 cancer-causing chemicals contained in marijuana. Marijuana smoke also deposits tar into the lungs. In fact, when equal amounts of marijuana and tobacco are smoked, marijuana deposits four times as much tar into the lungs. This is because marijuana joints are un-filtered and often more deeply inhaled than cigarettes.
Thanks soccer mom. Now we're educated. Even marijuana smoke is bad? Huh, no foolin. What if I'm sitting in a drive thru sucking in exhaust fumes while waiting for my boxes and cups full of sugar and fat? Can you show us a study on that? Thank you for your educated response and service to the community.
DeleteRe: The Realist
DeleteThey were schooling the original poster on their comments about pot being harmless. Next time read the thread.
Re: 1:15. Apparently you need to read the thread
DeleteOops sorry, I just read the thread now. I stand corrected.
DeleteI like tar.
DeleteOh that's so cute. Two realists? lol
DeleteAnd we're both clueless. lol
Deletewhat's sad here is that he will probably do the time because the judge is not afraid of him (he's not from down country)
ReplyDeleteBingo. You got that right.
DeleteIt's not sad at all, it's warranted. Any supplier is worth getting off the street.
DeleteCome on people! We are not living in 1935 with Reefer Madness anymore. The whole propaganda about it is totally false. There are way more benefits than non with Marijuana. It is a plant that helps people. I speak for myself who has my medical marijuana card. My doctor has been trying to give me percs for years and I have denied them every time because I have seen what pills have done to this town and most everywhere. It helps with pain and without the addiction of having to get more if out. There is no physical addiction and there are no withdrawals from it. Maybe if more people were prescribed pot then we wouldn't have the problems we do today with opiate addiction. It's time we legalize it and tax it. It's a win-win for everyone. More tax money and less opiate addicted people which leads to crime. I say up with hope and smoke more dope!
ReplyDeleteGee thank you for the propaganda about all the nifty health benefits of inhaling Tetrahydrocannabinol into my lungs, what's a little myocardial infarction and elevated Apolipoprotein C-III among friends.
DeleteHow many people die a year from opiates???? Now how many people die a year or should I say EVER from marijuana??? That's right NONE!!!! This year alone a young girl died from an overdose right here in Springfield. Opiates are one of the leading causes for crime and self-destruction in communities. The whole b.s. about it being a "Gate way" drug makes me laugh. I bet you can't think of one person who tried pot before either having a ciggy butt or a drink of alcohol. Those are both classified as a drug.
DeleteMy sister died after being hit by an individual driving while under the influence of opiates so your argument shows your lack of understanding of the wide range of effects of opiates. Feel free to open your eyes and observe the entire picture and not just the picture of the liberal agenda.
DeleteHow can you expect someone to work for Father Peter and not do drugs?
ReplyDeleteRude comment!
DeleteIndeed rude, hence my comment
DeleteObviously you haven't worked with fr Peter.... Very smart, very holy man
DeleteSorry to hear of your sister.....but mj is NOT an opiate.
