Thank you! Aug 11, 2014 Share on print Share on facebook Share on twitter Share on email More Sharing Services 0 To the Editor: The Turning Point Recovery Center in Springfield would like to thank all the sponsors, participants, musicians and vendors who made the Revival Music Festival a huge success. I also would like to thank Nick, Brad, and John for coming to me with the idea to do this in the first place. The Family Center, Hole in the Hill, the Democratic Party, HCRS, Springfield Restorative Justice, Youth in Transition, Bevin, Matt, Danielle, Larry and others, as well. My heartfelt thanks to the two speakers for the message of hope for our future. To share their stories was not an easy task but they touched so many with the words from pain and despair to recovery and hope. Hannah and Timothy you were awesome, thank you so much … recovery and hope! A big thanks to Jibba the Gent and Cause and Effect, Vazy, Team DILLIGAF with Jeremy, Arundell and Robert, renicholas, DJ John Sullivan and friends with Jeff, Mike and John and Crazy Love with Travis, Tom and Ben. As I walked about talking with folks there, some feedback was given by a young lady named Brandy. She said, “Springfield has always been my home, but I never thought our community would be consumed by gang violence and drug activity. Vermont should not be known for our outbreak in drug abuse, but instead, how beautiful and enjoyable it is. Turning Point Recovery Center has helped my father remain sober for nine years and I am incredibly thankful for the community action they take part in. We have slowly let Springfield fall apart, and it takes only a few people to help start a positive change. Revival 2014 was the start of taking back our town and start a new start. I feel sorry for the people who didn't attend, it was heartfelt, inspirational, with the most fantastic people who stood up and took a stand for our community. It starts right here, right now. It is the perfect time to make a change.” John Sullivan stated: “ It was a reality check hearing the stories from the guest speaker and Shorty. It made me thankful for what I have in my life and the choices I've made but also thankful that a place like the TPRC is there for those struggling to find the right direction in their lives when faced with an addiction. “ Alex Benson said: “I was born and raised in Springfield and lived here most of my life. Every time I have moved away, I have always come back because it will always be home to me. When I first moved back I was disappointed in the turn the town had made, but the longer I have been here, the more I realized it wasn't as bad as it looked. For all the horrible things that have been going on there are multiple people working in the background, doing their best to make things better. What the Revival Music Festival did — in my mind — is bring this hard work to the forefront. If we can foster openness, forward thinking, and positivity in this town we can make the changes that we want. I was honored to be a part of the Revival Music Festival.” Nick stated: “I thought the event was great and the positive vibes from everyone were reflected. It was cool to come together with all my friends to make such an event happen. It was for sure an impact on the community, no doubt! I left the venue feeling like we had done what we had set out to do! I look forward to The Revival Music Festival 2015” These were just some of the comments, but there many, many more similar; the one thing that I want to mention was how the little kids got to interact with the performers, and how family and friends bonded for the day … the kids are the future of this town. With the people that were there at the Festival I know they have a chance. If you have a substance abuse issue and need support come down to Turning Point and Talk to someone, Recovery is the answer and we can help you with that. Thank you everyone! cool !!!......go for it.
ReplyDeleteWish we could say "thank you" to the recovery center but they've actually not been a "producer" to our economy.
ReplyDeleteAgree with 7:23
ReplyDeleteWith the dregs that idlely loiter there day in, day out, you'd think they'd contribute something back to the community. Instead, they're content to have their hand in hard working, tax payer's pockets. Be it tax exempt status or the perpetual article for cash each town meeting. A great example for anyone on the road to recovery is, take responsibility and PAY YOUR OWN WAY.
