Apple festival set for Oct. 11 September 30,2014 Apple festival set for Oct. 11 SPRINGFIELD — The 32nd annual Vermont Apple Festival, with its apple pie baking contest, will be held Oct. 11 at Riverside Middle School. The Apple Festival this year will feature 60 vendors in the school gym, cafeteria and outside grounds. Craftsmen from all over Vermont, as well as New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, will be displaying their arts and crafts. Outside, there will be pony rides, apple cider making, amusement rides, a train for kids and adults and a pie eating contest. Bakers can enter the pie contest. There are cash prizes for best traditional and non-traditional pies. Bakers should register their pie on the day of the event at 10:30 a.m., for judging at 1 p.m. Each pie will become the property of the Vermont Apple Festival and slices will be sold after prizes are awarded. Bakers should include a list of ingredients used in the pie. There are still spaces left in the gym for vendors and outside.
