Youvathana Sok By Eric Levenson Boston.com Staff September 13, 2014 8:00 AM New Englanders were treated to a fantastic look at the color show that is the Northern Lights on Friday night. The aurora borealis, as the lights are technically known, stretched across the sky south into parts of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts on Friday night and into the early Saturday morning hours. Here are some of the best images from the aurora borealis that were shared around social media. Ryan Knapp shared this photo from his perch at Mount Washington Observatory in New Hampshire. Images of the lights from Maine were some of the clearest. The Northern Lights also could be viewed in Vermont. Even as far south as the Cape Cod Canal, Matthew Cappucci shared a weak but still evident image of the lights.
