SPRINGFIELD — The commute was slippery Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, as multiple tractor-trailers went off the road and into the median causing delays. The brakes of a tractor-trailer locked up early Wednesday morning on an icy I-91 near Putney, causing the truck to crash and close down a segment of the interstate. The truck, traveling northbound, slid into the median and came to rest partially in the southbound lane. The driver was uninjured in the wreck. The truck was reportedly carrying product for T.J. Maxx and Target. No fuel was spilled. SG Reed of Claremont, New Hampshire responded to the scene to aid in the removal of the tractor-trailer. Also responding to the scene were members of the Vermont State Police, VTrans and J&J Auto. In Springfield, another tractor-trailer went off the road, resulting in a segment of I-91 closed down to traffic between the hours of 4:30 and 7:30 a.m. Motorists were urged to seek additional routes. The driver of this wreck was also uninjured. A small snowstorm late Tuesday left roads slippery and forced superintendents to call school delays before the stroke of midnight.
