WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — A woman spent the weekend in jail after she was picked up on a warrant that had been outstanding for her arrest since 2005, stemming from an incident that occurred nine years ago when she was a teenager.
Shauna Hicks, who is now 26, ended up getting time-served credit for the nights she spent in detention awaiting her appearance at the courthouse Monday afternoon, when she quickly reached a plea deal with the state in order to close out the cold case.
Hicks pleaded guilty to misdemeanor possession of cocaine, was sentenced to two days with credit and then promptly released.
Springfield Police said that Hicks, who was living in White River Junction at the time, was one of four people who bailed out of a crashed car just before noon Dec. 2, 2005, after the driver ran into a tree and then a utility pole at an intersection near Springfield Hospital.
Hicks, whose jaw was hurt, remained with one of the men at the scene while two other men took off running, according to witnesses who spoke to police at the time.
Officer Dean Fullerton said the investigation determined that the Hyundai Santa Fe involved was a rental and when police called the person on the rental agreement, who was not one of the four people who had been in the car, they said they were not aware that it was being driven.
A search of the car and some of the other passengers turned up signs of heroin use including needles and a digital scale. Hicks ended up being charged after a baggie containing crack rocks was found in the glove compartment within arm’s reach of the front passenger seat, where she had been prior to the crash.

Apparently this woman isn't the reformed, model citizen the RH suggests. Neighbors would be wise to lock their homes.
