Springfield rejects 'maker's space' proposal for armory

Springfield will pursue assuming ownership of the closed North Springfield National Guard Armory but with the condition that the town won't be responsible for any environmental cleanup at the facility.

  1. This building and the DPW building need to be torn down and the land they sit on cleaned up. Springfield's water supply is more important then these two building.

  2. The town and its representatives need to fight to have it restored to an active status as an armory with a Vermont National Guard Unit assigned there. Of course, given the wimps that Springfield has elected to the state legislature, we might as well write off any hope of this or any other building in the town being restored with the help of the state. They already figure that they're doing Springfield a big enough favor by saddling the town with a prison.

Honestly though, if the town had any kind of competent leadership or representation, they'd be fighting tooth and nail to station a Guard unit there again. But the total LACK OF FIGHT for anything the town really needs tells you all you really need to know...
