WEATHERSFIELD — An attic fire at an indoor shooting range near the Springfield dam brought out firefighters from several towns late Tuesday afternoon.
Workers at the Precision Valley Fish & Game Association noticed light smoke inside the two-story indoor range and evacuated the metal-clad building just before 6 p.m.
Firefighters from West Weathersfield, Ascutney, West Windsor, Reading and Cavendish responded to the scene while Claremont provided an engine to cover the emptied stations.
Crews found a working fire in the attic section of the flat-roofed structure and began pumping water from a nearby brook to a porta-tank that was set up right in the intersection of Reservoir Road and Wellwood Orchard Road.
The fire was knocked down and the situation declared under control 40 minutes after the initial alarm was sounded. There were no reports of injuries and no immediate word on the cause.
The rod and gun club, which features both the indoor and outdoor shooting ranges, is over 70 years old.
