SPRINGFIELD, Vt. - Springfield Police responded to a home invasion and car chase last week. The incident happened on April 16 at around 1 a.m.
Police say Job Thorburn, 41, of Springfield, broke into a residence on Slack Avenue and assaulted the homeowner.
When police arrived, Thorburn is accused of leaving the driveway, failed to stop his vehicle, and drove around a police car blocking the road.
During an approximate two mile pursuit, police say Thorburn struck a slate wall, drove through multiple intersections without stopping, and drove on the wrong side of the road.
The vehicle eventually stopped on Hartness Avenue, a short distance from where the pursuit began.
Police say after searching Thorburn's vehicle, his wife and children were found inside.
Thorburn and the homeowner was transported to Springfield Hospital for treatment. Thorburn was later transported to New Hampshire for further treatment.
Police believe Thorburn was trying to recover an acquaintance's handgun that had been reported stolen on an earlier date.
Police say during their investigation, drugs were found at the residence and in Thorburn's vehicle.
Thorburn is charged with burglary, aggravated assault, unlawful mischief, attempting to elude, negligent operation, reckless endangerment, possession of cocaine, and possession bath salt.
Thorburn is in custody in New Hampshire and is awaiting extradition back to Vermon
