WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — Windsor County State’s Attorney Michael Kainen has turned over to the Vermont attorney general’s office the prosecution of a Springfield man charged with the murder of a neighbor over alleged drug dealing.
Kainen said Wednesday that he had asked for help with the April case because he has many shootings and other felony cases pending in his office.
Gregory Smith, 30, is charged with shooting Wesley Wing, 37, of Springfield to death on South Street in Springfield after Wing complained to Smith’s girlfriend, Wendy Morris, about the drug dealing activity at their home.
Smith, who has a lengthy criminal record mostly dealing with car theft, has pleaded innocent to charges of second-degree murder. He is being held without bail.
Morris, 25, has pleaded innocent to charges of accessory after the fact for helping Smith to elude law enforcement. She is free on bail.
A scheduling hearing in Smith’s case is slated for next week in White River Junction criminal court. A second girlfriend, Kristin Walsh, 29, of Keene, N.H., is facing similar charges in New Hampshire for harboring Smith after he fled Springfield.

after the deal Kainen gave the other shooter in Springfield, he should hand all his cases over to somebody else
ReplyDeleteAdvocate/Enabler/States Attorney Michael Kainen should transfer to HCRS. The clients there need that personal touch.
