Steve Butler: It was a wonderful life

When it occurs in the company of a great parent, even a driving mishap in the New England winter can provide a fond childhood memory.

Stephen Butler is the Chief Executive Officer of Pension Dynamics Company LLC in Pleasant Hill, California. He has worked in the pension and employee benefits area since the early 1970s and has been credited with some of the earlier Employee Stock Ownership Plans and 401(k) plans installed in Northern California. Within the pension industry, where he is a popular speaker, Steve Butler is best known as a leading advocate of retirement plans. He has worked with the Department of Labor to assist in establishing guidelines to ensure full disclosure of fees and services to plan sponsors.

He is the author of 2 books on 401(k) plans, The Decision-Maker’s Guide to 401(k) Plans and 401(k) Today. For over 10 years, Steve has written a weekly financial column for Knight Ridder newspapers. He is the originator of the “Butler Index”, an index of total costs of 401(k) plans that has been featured in articles in the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. He has also co-produced a retirement investment pilot program, which was aired on National Public Television stations throughout the country.

Steve is q graduate of Harvard College and attended the University of California at Berkeley Graduate School of Business Administration.
