SPRINGFIELD — Police in Springfield are investigating a robbery reported earlier this morning at the River Street Pharmacy that resulted in an hour-long lockdown at a downtown health center complex.
Pharmacy Manager Marc Prouty said on Monday morning, when asked about the robbery, that the pharmacy is “not issuing a statement at this time.”
Employees were working and clients were visiting the Springfield Health Center at about 10:10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 5. However, the building was on lockdown for about an hour, from 8:15 to 9:10 a.m., according to two employees in the Central Registration office.
The pharmacy is housed at the Springfield Health Center at 100 River St., on the second floor, but is a separate entity from the health center.
A dispatch agent at the Springfield Police Department confirmed at 10:45 a.m. Monday morning that the SPD is currently investigating a robbery at that pharmacy. Both Springfield Police Chief Doug Johnston and Lt. Mark Fountain were out responding to “the incident,” he said.
No one was available at the SPD to confirm what had allegedly been stolen from the pharmacy.
The SPD is still investigating.
