2017-05-04 / Local New exhibit at the Great Hall in Springfield SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — The Great Hall is proud to announce a new spring/summer installation titled, “Four Centripetal Views," from Rutland artist William T. Ramage. The work will be on display in the Great Hall at One Hundred River Street in Springfield from May 8 through Sept. 8. Nina Jamison, the coordinator of the Great Hall, arranged for Ramage to have his work displayed in Springfield after viewing several pop-up art installations in Rutland, including a dramatic piece, “The Syrian Experience as Art." "Four Centripetal Views" includes several room-size photos and painting sculptures and is a showcase of Ramage’s mind-bending art. In talking about the Great Hall installation, Ramage said, "These sculptures are an example of 35 years in pursuit of trying to arrange an alternative perceptual understanding of a visual space. I have a name for it . . . 'Centripetal Perspective.'" The sculptures are life size installations of this alternative perception." Ramage came to Vermont in 1971 and spent 37 years teaching at Castleton University and now serves as an Emeritus Professor of Art and is an advisor for the department and the University’s galleries. His own work has been exhibited around the state and as far away as Kiev and Ukraine.
