Man will not face murder charge in shooting

White River Junction District Court Judge Theresa S. DiMauro dismissed a second-degree murder charge Tuesday against Kyle Bolaski, 24, who was accused of killing Tamburello, 32, of Springfield on Aug. 17.

School forum expected to give voice to community

Trail has winter tryout

The Toonerville Trail, Springfield's popular walking and bicycling path, is going to be open this winter for the first time, thanks to prodding from Springfield Hospital. The hospital had received a grant titled "Blueprints for Health" to encourage people to exercise and stay in shape and the hospital put keeping the Toonerville Trail open as a top priority.

Union contract gets OK

More than 16 months after its contract expired, the International Association of Firefighters, Local 2750 has a new agreement with the town of Springfield.

Man, 52, dies in tractor accident

52-year-old Dennis "Chip" Richardson died Sunday at Springfield Hospital after his tractor flipped over on him, according to Springfield police.
The accident occured at his home near the intersection of Will Dean Road and Seavers Brook Road Sunday morning.

Cosmos Complete Undefeated Season With State Title

The Springfield Cosmos completed an undefeated season by thrashing Windsor, 52 - 28 and bringing the Division II state championship home to Springfield for the first time since 1948.

No surprises election day as Springfield voters backed incumbents. Gov. Jim Douglas coasted to re-election and carried Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie with him.
Republican challengers Paul Gibbs, Jr. and John Stettner were unable to unseat the Democratic incumbents.

Solar funds above $300K

Solar projects in Springfield and Rutland Town got a boost from the state Friday. The Vermont Department of Public Service bestowed $125,000 on the Southern Vermont Health and Recreation Center for solar panels on its facility and $200,000.

Insurance on hook for waste cleanup

A group of insurance companies representing the owners of the Springfield Shopping Plaza, the family of S.R. Young and Bradford Oil will pay the state of Vermont close to $1 million for cleaning up soil and groundwater pollution from the former GoGoGas service station.
