SPRINGFIELD, Vt. --
A house fire in a two apartment home in Springfield left one dead and two homeless over the weekend.
Officials say the fire started late Saturday afternoon and quickly engulfed the entire house. The building's landlord, Michael Woychosky, identified the victim as Leslie Streeter, one of the three residents of the house. Officials say they think he was trying to put out the fire when he got trapped inside.
"He was a great guy," Woychosky said. "Outgoing. He would always be willing to help you if you needed help."
Police are looking into what caused the fire, but said they suspect it began with a cigarette on the first floor.
The American Red Cross representatives have been helping the two women who lived in the building find shelter.
