Eight-year-old boy honored for quick action that saved family


In the early hours on Dec. 10, Carter Streeter was awake playing video games in the living room of his residence. Carter observed a reflection in his television, and he turned to see that there was a fire in the living room.

At approximately 7:11 a.m. Monday morning, the Springfield Fire Department was dispatched to the Springfield Housing Authority at 110 Mountain View Drive to respond to a structure fire in a 12-unit building.

A three-alarm brush fire over the noon hour Tuesday in Hartness State Park charred hillsides above Summer and Dell Streets but did not end up doing any property damage.

Springfield blaze claims 7 woodland acres

No injuries were reported on Tuesday after a late-morning brush fire swept through a wooded area near Hartness Park, charring almost seven acres of vegetation.

'To him, everybody was a friend'; North Walpole teen mourned after deadly fire

Gloria Underhill, an X-ray technician at Springfield Hospital, got up from the bed that Sunday evening and readied herself for work. Hours later, as night became twilight, the North Walpole resident would get the bad news: There was a fire at her home in North Walpole. Her son Daniel lost his life.

Chief: Substance in hazmat incident not dangerous


Fire crews from numerous area towns responded Wednesday morning to a hazmat incident in the plaza that includes Springfield Pharmacy and Dunkin Donuts on River Street. As of 10:30 a.m., the scene was deemed stable.

Car fire temporarily closes section of I-91

The Springfield Fire Department and Vermont State Police responded to the area of mile marker 42 Friday, Feb. 17 to a reported car fire around 11:26 a.m. Upon arrival of state police, the driver had gotten out of the vehicle and firefighters were working to extinguish the blaze.
