The Springfield Fire Department and Vermont State Police responded to the area of mile marker 42 Friday, Feb. 17 to a reported car fire around 11:26 a.m. Upon arrival of state police, the driver had gotten out of the vehicle and firefighters were working to extinguish the blaze. “The cause is believed to be mechanical, as the operator reported his vehicle was stuck in four wheel drive low prior to the fire starting,” said Trooper Colin Shepley in a press release. I-91 north was shut down at Exit 7 for about an hour while crews worked to extinguish the fire and remove the vehicle. Traffic along Route 11 came to a crawl as police blocked entrance ramps onto I-91 north and directed traffic.
