The two Springfield High School students placed third in role play for hospitality and marketing and won 2nd place overall for that event. Greene also won a 1st place gold medal in the written exam for Hospitality Services. The RVTC students brought home a combined total of $3,000 in scholarships. "This was a great experience for us. We had to create a business plan for a new resort hotel and then pitch the plan to the judges. It was all done in a short period of time, but we were able to research the market and come up with a multi level marketing campaign to pitch." Norton said. She said nerves were not much of an issue for them as they felt they were well prepared for the event. Medaling in these events have earned them a spot at the National DECA Conference in Disney Land, in Anehiem, California this spring. The two will travel with their RVTC instructor Sue Dana, who also won an award at the Vermont Chapter DECA competition. Dana earned the "Outstanding New Chapter Advisor" award. "We are going to have to do quite a bit of fundraising in the upcoming months in order to make this trip happen." Norton said, adding she and Greene are hoping to get corporate sponsors to help with the transportation and lodging costs. Contact Sue Dana at the River Valley Technical Center at (802) 885-8337 to make a contribution to this exciting opportunity for these Business and Financial Services students.
