Boost for Springfield cleanup project

Cleanup at the former Fellows Gear Shaper property in Springfield is getting a boost.

http://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/article/20100325/NEWS02/3250317/1007/Grant-to-help-clean-up-Springfield-property # # # # Grant to help clean up Springfield property  •  Burlington Free Press Staff Report • Thursday, March 25, 2010  •  MONTPELIER -- A project to clean up the former Fellows Gear Shaper property in downtown Springfield was awarded a $110,000 brownfields cleanup grant.  •  Another $80,000 from the Southern Windsor County Regional Planning Commission and the Environmental Protection Agency will help the Precision Valley Development Corp. rehabilitate the property.  •  "This proposal will help continue with the redevelopment of a critical downtown property," Gov. Jim Douglas said. "This will not only help the town's economy, but will turn a blighted property into clean, safe commercial space, including space for the Springfield Hospital health center."  •  Redevelopment will allow reuse of a historic building and provide new office and commercial space on River Street.  •
